This landmark ecological initiative aims to rejuvenate local biodiversity and create a sustainable environmental model for urban neighborhoods. From 2014 the residence and social workers were trying to restore and protect this Biggest Lake of Greater Chennai. Yes now this dream is coming true.
The project was formally inaugurated by Tmt. Sivabooshanam Ravi, President of Medavakkam Panchayat, and Thiru. B. Ravi, Union Councillor & Former President of Medavakkam Panchayat. The event was graced by Chief Guests: Film Actor Arya, a prominent figure in the Tamil film industry, and Rtn. Mahaveer Bothra, Rotary District Governor, District 3233.
The project involves the planting of over 3,000 native saplings to establish a dense Blue-Green Ecological Forest, aimed at increasing groundwater levels, encouraging local flora and fauna, and reducing ambient temperatures in the vicinity by up to 4°C.
Together, the clubs have contributed a total of ₹25 lakhs towards the project. The entire execution is being carried out by the Yatha Green Council of India (NGO), the visionary organization behind the concept.
Rtn. Hemant Khandelwal, President of Rotary Club of Chennai Capital, stated: “We are proud to contribute to the long-term sustainability and well-being of our community. This project is not just about planting trees or restoring a lake — it’s about restoring hope, balance, and resilience in our environment.”
This large-scale environmental initiative is a collaborative effort of four Rotary Clubs:
Rotary Club of Chennai Capital (Main Sponsor)
Rotary Club of Madras Midtown
Rotary Club of Chennai Central Elite
