The Indian College of Nuclear Medicine (ICNM) Inauguration introduced the scientific sessions of the 17th Asia Oceania Congress of Nuclear Medicine and Biology (AOCNMB 2025) this morning at Positron Hall, ITC Grand Chola, Chennai. The ceremony marked the beginning of a major international gathering of nuclear medicine professionals, hosted this year in Tamil Nadu’s capital—an emerging hub for healthcare excellence and scientific advancement.
The event commenced with a warm welcome by Dr. S. Santhosh, Secretary General, SNMI, who introduced the ICNM Inauguration and set the tone for the day. This was followed by Dr. Kanhaiyalal Agarwal, Secretary, ICNM, who formally welcomed the dignitaries and invited them on stage. The dignitaries included Dr. B. R. Mittal – Dean, ICNM, Prof. Dr. Akram Al-Ibraheem – President, AOFNMB, Prof. Jun Hatazawa – Honorary/Executive President, AOFNMB, Dr. E. Prabhu – President, SNMI & Organizing Chairman, Dr. P. Senthilkumar, I.A.S. – Principal Secretary, Health & Family Welfare, Government of Tamil Nadu, Dr. Anshu Rajnish Sharma – Scientific Committee Chairperson, Dr. S. Santhosh – Secretary General, SNMI, and Dr. Kanhaiyalal Agarwal – Secretary, ICNM.
The Chief Guest, Dr. P. Senthilkumar, I.A.S., Principal Secretary, Health and Family Welfare Department, Government of Tamil Nadu, delivered the keynote address and officially inaugurated the scientific sessions. He expressed immense pride in Chennai hosting the 17th AOCNMB conference, emphasizing the remarkable growth of nuclear medicine in Tamil Nadu and across India. Dr. Senthilkumar highlighted the state’s continued investment in healthcare, innovation, and medical technology, welcoming all delegates and expressing hope that they would enjoy both the scientific discussions and Chennai’s cultural vibrancy.
Dr. E. Prabhu, Chairman and President of the Society of Nuclear Medicine, India (Organising Committee), said, “Tamil Nadu has the highest number of nuclear medical centres in India, and my vision is to expand the nation’s nuclear medicine centres from 540 to 2,700 by 2030.”
AOCNMB 2025 represents a collective platform for innovation, collaboration, and global knowledge exchange. Dr. S. Santosh captured the spirit of the event, describing AOCNMB as “an exciting scientific extravaganza” that brings together the brightest minds in the discipline. The inauguration concluded with a Vote of Thanks by Dr. S. Santhosh, followed by the National Anthem. Dignitaries then assembled for a group photograph to mark the commencement of AOCNMB 2025’s scientific programs.
