Honourable Governor of Tamil Nadu and Kerala Shri Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar Inaugurates IIRSI 2026
Chennai, July 4, 2026: Shri Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar, Honourable Governor of Tamil Nadu and Kerala, today inaugurated the two-day Indian Intraocular Implant & Refractive Surgery Convention 2026 (IIRSI Convention), the country’s premier scientific conference on eye surgery and the flagship annual event of the Intraocular Implant & Refractive Society of India (IIRSI).
Scheduled over two days, July 4 and 5, 2026, the convention has brought together over 2,000 ophthalmologists, surgeons, researchers, and experts from around the world. Featuring more than 250 speakers, over 500 scientific topics, and nine wet lab sessions, the convention offers a comprehensive platform for scientific exchange, skill enhancement, and professional collaboration.
The inauguration ceremony was held in the presence of Padma Shri Dr Jeewan Singh Titiyal, President, IIRSI; Prof. Amar Agarwal, Secretary General, IIRSI; Dr Namrata Sharma, Chairman – Scientific Committee, All India Ophthalmic Society; Dr Gaurav Luthra, Chairman – IIRSI ARC; Dr TP Lahane, Past President – IIRSI; Dr Ragini Parekh, Past President – IIRSI; Dr Ritika Sachdev, Executive Committee Member – IIRSI; Maj Gen JKS Parihar, Immediate Past President – IIRSI; Dr Rohit Om Prakash, Scientific International Coordinator – IIRSI; and Dr Mohan Rajan, along with distinguished ophthalmologists, researchers, and eye care professionals from India and abroad.
Covering the latest advances in cataract, refractive surgery, cornea, retina, myopia, and comprehensive ophthalmology, the scientific sessions are led by renowned national and international experts. The programme includes international faculty lectures, live surgical demonstrations, and discussions on emerging technologies, challenging cases, and evolving clinical practices in modern ophthalmology.
In addition to the scientific programme, the convention provides opportunities for practical learning and creative engagement through specialised wet lab sessions, abstract presentations, and the IIRSI Ophthalmic Photography Competition.
The Ophthalmic Premier League (Mohan Rajan OPL Trophy) offers an exciting platform showcasing excellence in the management of ophthalmic complications and advanced surgical procedures. Through team-based video presentations, live case discussions, surgeon self-evaluation, and expert critique with real-time scoring, the competition promotes clinical excellence and surgical mastery among ophthalmologists.
Debuting at IIRSI 2026, BAdS@IIRSI presents a unique platform that bridges the worlds of business strategy and surgical advancement in ophthalmology. By bringing together clinical experts and industry leaders on a single stage, the session fosters candid dialogue, strategic foresight, and meaningful discussions on emerging technologies and the future direction of eye care. Led by Dr Ashvin Agarwal, these no-filter conversations promise valuable insights for both clinicians and industry stakeholders.
