Korean Story Festival 2026 inaugurated in Chennai, Celebrating India–Korea Cultural Exchange Through Cinema
Chennai, 21st July 2026: The Consulate General of the Republic of Korea in Chennai, in association with AVM Productions Private Limited, inaugurated the Korea Story Festival 2026 in Chennai on 20th July 2026. The three-day festival, being held from 20th to 22nd July 2026 at PVR Sathyam Cinemas, Royapettah, showcases five carefully selected Korean films curated by the Korean Film Council (KOFIC), celebrating the richness and diversity of Korean cinema.
The inaugural ceremony was graced by Mr. Nithilan Saminathan, acclaimed Tamil film director and screenwriter, as the Chief Guest. In his address, he spoke about the growing cultural ties between India and the Republic of Korea, highlighting the power of storytelling to transcend borders and bring people closer together. He also commended the Consulate General of the Republic of Korea in Chennai and AVM Productions Private Limited for providing Chennai audiences with the opportunity to experience internationally acclaimed Korean cinema.
Addressing the gathering, Mr. Je Hyoung Lee, Deputy Consul General of the Republic of Korea in Chennai, thanked the partners and audiences for their continued support of Korean cultural initiatives. He encouraged film enthusiasts to experience Korea’s culture, traditions, and scenic beauty through the films showcased at the festival. He also shared his hope for more collaborations between the Korean and Indian film industries, citing Made in Korea, a Tamil film shot entirely in the Republic of Korea, as a wonderful example of the growing partnership between the two countries
Mr. AVM K. Shanmugam, Managing Director of AVM Productions Private Limited, shared his remarks by emphasizing the importance of international cinematic collaborations in enriching the film industry and fostering mutual understanding between cultures. He expressed his pride in partnering with the Consulate to bring quality Korean cinema to Chennai audiences and reaffirmed AVM’s commitment to supporting initiatives that celebrate global storytelling.
The Korea Story Festival 2026 serves as an important platform for strengthening cultural understanding between India and the Republic of Korea through the universal language of cinema.
