Tamil Nadu Tourism at the World Kite Capital – 42nd Weifang International Kite Festival 2025

Chennai / Weifang, China – April 2025:
Tamil Nadu proudly debuts at the 42nd Weifang International Kite Festival, the world’s most prestigious
kite event, held from April 18 to 20, 2025, in Weifang, Shandong Province, China—globally celebrated
as the “Kite Capital of the World.”
With participation from over 50 countries and more than 50,000+ spectators, this festival is a spectacular
celebration of kite culture, uniting enthusiasts and artists from around the globe.
Making history on the global stage, Team Skyters, with the support of Tamil Nadu Tourism, showcases
Tamil Nadu’s vibrant culture for the very first time through two striking kite creations:
 A giant inflatable Jallikattu Bull Kite, symbolizing the power, pride, and tradition of Tamil Nadu’s
iconic sport.
 A vibrant kite emblazoned with the Tamil script “வாழ்க தமிழ் ” (Long Live Tamil), marking a
historic global flight of Tamil language and identity.
These kites captivate the audience with their distinct cultural essence and bold design, especially the
Jallikattu Bull Kite, which becomes the centerpiece of attention—flying high and commanding admiration
from visitors across the world.
This marks the first-ever global display of Tamil cultural symbols and language in an international kite
championship, aiming to strengthen Tamil Nadu’s presence on the international tourism map while
celebrating cultural pride and identity.
The Weifang International Kite Festival, now in its 42nd edition, is a spring tradition dating back over four
decades. Held in the birthplace of kites, the festival is a vibrant blend of tradition, artistry, and global unity
through the joy of kite flying.
Following this historic participation, the same symbolic kites will be featured at the Tamil Nadu
International Kite Festival 2025, to be held in May at Mahabalipuram—a coastal heritage town
renowned for its ancient shore temples and scenic beauty.
This cross-cultural initiative is more than a dazzling visual display—it is a celebration of identity,
creativity, and global friendship, reinforcing Tamil Nadu’s emergence as a vibrant and culturally rich
tourism destination.
