Over 80 years, AVM Studios has been synonymous with setting benchmarks in the Indian film industry.
Having produced 179 feature films, 55 television serials and one web series, our company takes pride in having produced films in six languages – Tamil, Telugu, Hindi, Kannada, Bengali and Sinhala. Over the decades, we have achieved numerous milestones and pioneered several innovations in Indian cinema. These include introducing playback singing for the first time through Nanda Kumar (1938), the first film to introduce playback with post lip synchronisation in Sri Valli (1945). In 1947, Shri. AV. Meiyappan purchased the rights of Mahakavi Bharathiyaar’s songs for Naam Iruvar, and proceeded to then magnanimously gift the copyrights of all Mahakavi Bharathiyar’s songs to the nation in 1949. Continuing the milestones was Andha Naal (1954) one of the first Tamil films made without songs, children’s film Hum Panchi Ek Daal Ke (1957) which won the Jawaharlal Nehru National Gold Medal, bringing together M.S.Viswanathan and Ilaiyaraaja as composers for the first time in Mella Thirandhathu Kadhavu (1986), producing Samsaram Athu Minsaram (1986), the first film to receive the President’s Gold Medal for wholesome entertainment. In 1989, Raja Chinna Roja was India’s first film to combine real actors with animation, followed by Sivaji (2007), the forerunner for films produced on a large budget and Sivaji 3D (2012), the first Indian film to use Dolby Atmos technology.
In addition, we have the distinction of having worked with six chief ministers. These include Arignar C.N. Annadurai in Ore Iravu (1951), Dr. Kalaignar M. Karunanidhi in Parasakthi (1952), Dr. M.G. Ramachandran in Anbe Vaa (1966), Dr. N. T. Rama Rao in five films between 1954 and 1970, Dr. Selvi. J. Jayalalithaa in four films between 1962 and 1970, and Mr. C. Joseph Vijay in Vettaikaaran (2009).
In 2023, we launched ‘AVM Heritage Museum’, a celebration of legacy, cinema history and our carefully preserved archives. A space that gives visitors the chance to immerse themselves into the rich history of AVM and an impressive collection of rare automobiles.
Carrying forward this legacy of excellence, AVM is proud to announce the inauguration of the “AVM Convention Centre”, a thoughtful space for events located right inside the iconic AVM Studios compound.
The versatile venue is designed to host a wide array of events, including corporate meetings, conventions, audio launches, weddings, receptions and engagements. To accommodate diverse culinary preferences, the venue features state-of-the-art, entirely separate modern kitchens for both vegetarian and non-vegetarian catering.
